Track Review: “Care of You” – Shannon Stephens

Shannon Stephens’ dropped a new single from her third full-length, Pull It Together, today. The album is due to be released on May 22 via Asthmatic Kitty Records, after which Stephens will embark on an eleven date tour in the US and Canada. The single, “Care of You,” starts off sounding like a more rockin’ version of Gillian Welch’s “My First Lover” with rhythmic guitar, battering drums, and banjo. Stephens’ silky voice sounds troubled in this roughed-up, bluesy number- like a women with things on her mind. Indeed, her lyrics reveal this to be true, as she sings “birds know to fly south but I can’t figure my problems out/ bears know to hibernate but I can’t make my path go straight.” You can download and stream the track below.
