Track Premiere: Dark-wave Champs Knifight Share “Let the End Begin”

Dark-wave champions Knifight return with a new single, “Let the End Begin,” in advance of an upcoming album, Worship, to be released later this year. The song, mixed by Max Lorenzen, recalls like-minded band Future Islands, with whom Knifight has shared a stage multiple times. Pulsing synths and danceable beats drive the song forward as synth strings and John Gable’s deep vocals soar over the rhythmic backdrop. Finding the emotional tenor of a drive through the dark of night, toward the inevitable sunrise, the song feels both dark and buoyant, a paradoxical aesthetic Knifight has employed to great effect throughout their work.

Gable calls the song an “homage to Kate Bush,” commenting that it was written during a period in which he was “obsessed with Hounds of Love,” Bush’s seminal work. Gable also remarked that the song is “a celebration of women in general.”

We are proud to premiere “Let the End Begin” below. Keep your ear to the ground for more in the near future from Knifight.
