Premiere: New Salesman Songs Ahead of 7″ Release at Holy Mountain Tomorrow

The new Salesman 7″ comes out tomorrow, cut and distributed by Tuscon, AZ, via Olympia, WA, label PIAPTK aka People In A Position To Know, who specialize in special limited runs. Pop Press International is pleased to debut the songs for you today. The A-side “Let’s Go Jump Into The Fire” gallops out of the speakers with a rolling fingerpicked riff bouncing merrily, before our singer claims, “Last night I got born/That silver beast and I locked horns.” The song develops, referencing the moon and slowly adding additional instrumentation, fortifying the spirit and energy of the new age Saturnalian celebration unfolding before us. With a casual lyrical reference to Nina Simone, the band utilizes strong arrangements for a final result that hums with earthly heavens.

The band is planning to release these songs tomorrow evening, February 6, at Holy Mountain. They will be supported by Tim Larson (Chicago), Sancho (Peter Shults), RF Shannon, and modern medicine. I suspect a solid evening of folk/roots-inflected spirit songs, which is exactly why I *highly* recommend going to this show tomorrow. Also to be released for the first time are Salesman’s very own Devin James Fry’s accompanying watercolors to decorate the 7″ vinyl. Music is at 8:30, y’all.

Our second gift from Salesman is the B-side on the 7″: “Riddle of the Source.” Where the A-side is bathed in light, this track hides in the brush, halfway illuminated and halfway hidden in the shadows. Weeping pedal steel drifts lazily in the background, informing us with southwestern expanse. Backup harmonies lament the loss of the day: “Darkness upon darkness/upon lightness upon light.” A single guitar string bends up, jolting a flash of reverb and electricity.

As the Facebook event purports: Jupiter at opposition, wise vibes everywhere.
