Foxing Quarterly Issue No. 2 Release Party w/ Good Field & Derrick Brown

Foxing_Quarterly_Issue_2_Release-2Foxing Quarterly continues to grow as “a print-only creative space for writers and artists.” Daniel Mejia and Jane Robbins Mize edit this quarterly publication which has made lasting impressions on the literature scene in only its first year. Being dedicated to working exclusively in print is a commendable vision, and the group at Foxing deliver a high quality product. The second issue features as much elegance and refinement as the first issue. Featuring artwork, poetry, fiction, drama, and comics, the literary journal offers something for everyone.

Foxing_Quarterly_Issue_2_Release-20The celebration for the release of this second issue, held at the Parish, showcased performances by Good Field, The Loblolly Boys, and The Hereticks and readings by Derrick Brown, Anis Mojgani, and Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz. We were thrilled to see Good Field on the bill as they’re one of our favorite bands to see live. With Paul Price at the helm, the band played much of their outstanding, recently-released, self-titled album as well as quite a few new songs from a yet to be announced full-length.

Foxing_Quarterly_Issue_2_Release-8Derrick Brown, one of the creators of acclaimed indie press Write Bloody, who acted as a co-sponsor for the event, provided a lengthy set of readings. Backed by a band as he ambled through slovenly eloquent poems, Brown provided a true performance that added a depth to the readings, challenging the expectations of those who might assume live poetry to be flat. Affiliating themselves with Write Bloody strikes me as a wise career move for the group at Foxing, even if only looking to them as a guide and model, and we’re excited to see what great literature and events lie in the future.
