The Sour Notes are one of Austin’s most active, respected, and simply phenomenal bands. Last month they released this video for “Nothing’s More Contagious Than Evil,” the first track on their most recent album Last Looks. It’s hard to decide which is more killer, the video or the song. Both are foreboding: the track with its angular, distorted riffs and cacophonous keys and drums and the video with its surreal TV-headed prisoner. The cinematography is stellar and the special effects are high caliber. Director Laura Belle creates a dark Ray Bradbury-esque (God rest his soul), world in which a character is a prisoner to a room of televisions. The character’s own physical imprisonment perhaps hints at our own psychological imprisonment by media and television. Rumor has it that the band is already at work on their next video, which we can’t wait to see. The Sour Notes have been a band to watch for a long time, but they continue to take things to the next level. Look for them to start making headlines nationally soon. They head to Canada to play NXNE festival this week.
